Usage

1. Describe something which is happening at the exact moment of speech.

Example: Jim is watching television at the moment.

2. Describe an event planned in the future.

Example: I’m taking my French class on Tuesday.

Structure(+)

Affirmative

Subject + am / is / are + verb-ing

He is playing.

(-) Negative

Subject + am / is / are + not + verb-ing

He isn’t playing.

(?) Question

Am / Is / Are + subject + verb-ing?

Is he playing?

Contractions

(I) am not / I’m not

(He /She / It) isn’t / is not

(We / They / You) aren’t / are not

Example: I am playing. / I’m not playing.

She is playing. / She isn’t playing.

They are playing. / They aren’t playing.
