Can and Could – Expressions and Phrases

We use can and could to talk about ability, permission, and requests. Can is for now, like:I can swim. She’s able to ride a bike.Could often talks about past ability or a polite requests. He could read when he was five. Could is also polite for asking: Could you help me, please? Basically:Can = for now. Could = for the past or for being extra polite.
